The refills are expensive but it is worth it in the long run. Some of the other automatic litter boxes like ScoopFree have refills that are even mor expensive. You don't pay that much for the box, and it will last you a few years. As much as people complain about LitterMaid, they are a lot better than these new and fancy litter boxes that seem impressive but stop working after a while. Just stick with it, you'll be happy.
